The North York Moors section of the Coast to Coast path is traditionally divided into four sub-sections, each corresponding to one day’s walk across heather moorland, ancient tracks, and rolling upland terrain.

Unlike the three earlier sections, this part of the trail is characterised by frequent small ascents and descents — not high or steep, but often sustained and occasionally stepped with rough stone. Along the way, walkers pass ancient burial barrows, boundary stones, and the remnants of hill forts and other archaeological features scattered across the high moor.
