Trough House, Glaisdale, Coast to Coast
Trough House is a solitary property adjoining the Cut Road path on Glaisdale Moor. It is a gamekeeper's building, and is used by grouse shooting parties, often for luncheons between shoots. it is one of three such buildings in the area. Surrounding Trough House is a cluster of disused coal mines, although they remain largely invisible from the Coast to Coast path.
Lion Inn is about 3.5 miles south west from Trough House, White Cross is 1 mile west and Rosedale Head is 1 mile south south west. Cut Road leads to Glaisdale Moor, 1.5 miles to the east.

Viewed from the south the house has two windows Trough House is stone built and has an odd-looking low wall built to the side by the entrance door. The wall has a stepped tier, serving as a sitting platform, presumably for walkers changing their shoes. It also serves as a barrier to prevent snow piling up against the entrance door. No doubt the local sheep also use it to shelter from the elements.

Heading east from Seavey Hill along the Cut Road, Trough House is a significant landmark, solitary in its position, within a vast wilderness of moorland. It is a gamekeeper's house but in actuality it is also located within a vast extent of disused coal mines, not easily noticed from the path.

When seen from the east, the two tiered low wall is seen in more detail, and its function as a snow and wind buffer from the cold snow-bearing east wind makes more sense.
Cut Road Glaisdale
Cut Road is not actually a road, but a well made broad stony track, and is so throughout its entire length across the moorland, save for near Trough House where it is grassed over. The House is found at the Seavey Hill end of Cut Road, near to the junction with Knott Road.
Trough House Pits and Tailings
Trough House Pits is a disused coal colliery. Cut Road passes through the midst of these although the dozens of mine pits are difficult to make out without leaving the path. In this image, the raised brown mounds to the centre left, flag the position of 4 of the pit tailings.
Grouse Butts at Trough House
A line of grouse butts crosses the Coast to Coast path (the Cut Road) from south west to north east, a little east of Trough House, and a further line of butts bisects the moor between the Coast to Coast and George Gap Causeway path.
