Urra, Chop Gate, Coast to Coast
Urra is a small hamlet positioned to the west of Urra Moor. Together with Seave Green it is serviced by a small road that connects with the B1257 just north of Chop Gate and a mile south of Clay Bank. The country around Urra is charming, being located in the upper reaches of Bilsdale Valley. Hasty Bank and the Wain Stones are only 1 mile north of Urra, and Urra Moor which is populated with many ancient relics, e.g. an extensive ancient Earthwork, a long row of ancient Boundary Stones, many Bronze Age Round Barrows and the huge and solitary Badger Stone.
Malkin House Urra
One of the principal houses in Urra is Malkin House, which is a 5 bedroom historic former farmhouse located within attractive gardens and land. The property has much history and dates back to at least 1642 when it first appeared in a survey containi9ng detailed maps of a large farm, house and buildings.
Wainstones Barn Urra
Another attractive dwelling in Urra, Wainstones Barn, is positioned to the south of the hamlet, and to the east of the road at the foot of Urra Moor.
Urra Farm and Urra Moor
From Urra Farm you can sweep your eyes across the Farm to Urra Moor, and observe it rise from Carr Ridge. The rim of the Moor curves around to the south, and is lined all along the 340m contour, where the gentle slope of the decline steepens, with an ancient scheduled earthwork that subsists to the end of the Moor at Nab End.

Looking over the pastoral fields of Urra Farm there is much detail available that cannot be see from the Moor itself. For example an outcrop of sandstone forms a ridge near the 350m contour, and where it finishes it is replaced with a large ancient Earthwork that extends to Nab End Moor, beyond Chop Gate.
Bank House Farm Bilsdale
A terrific vantage point to look across Bilsdale from Urra, is the farming road junction from The Hagg, where it meets the road between Town Green and Urra. From here is an impressive view of the valley floor where Cold Moor descends from the Three Howes cairns.
