Grosmont Village, Coast to Coast
Grosmont Village nestles in Eskdale in the North York Moors. More precisely it is located between Egton Bridge and Sleights, on the south of the River Esk. The River Murk Esk converges with the River Esk at Grosmont, having flowed from Goathland where it began life as a convergence of the West Beck and the Eller Beck. Grosmont is most noted for its disused iron works and for its railway station that is poised on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway stretching from Whitby to Pickering. There is a regular daily steam train service in the spring and summer which attracts droves of railway enthusiasts. This incorporates George Stephenson's original railway line between Goathland and Grosmont.
Grosmont Village
Most of the activity around Grosmont Village now centres around the railway station, and this is where most of the shops are. The Village was originally named Tunnel because it grew as a result of the tunnel built by George Stevenson. Iron ore was discovered whilst digging the tunnel, which caused a spurt of growth for Grosmont, most of the new buildings being located close to the railway tunnel and ironworks.
St Matthew's Grosmont
St Matthew's Church in Grosmont is Grade II Listed with Historic England. It was built in 1875 to the design of Armfeld and Bottomley, in a broadly Early English style with early French character detailing. It is located on a finger of land around which the River Murk Esk loops. Grosmont Railway and sidings border the church to the west. From the railway crossing the church is seen alongside the path to the museum.

The station always seems to be teeming with people waiting for the next steam train to arrive.
Grosmont Tea Room
Grosmont's Tea Room adjoins the railway station, and is located between the station and its car park on the main road.
