Millenium Stone, Danby High Moor, Coast to Coast
The Millennium Stone is located at the junction of Seavey Hill with the Rosedale East Road. White Cross is 1 mile west north west and Loose Howe is a 1/2 mile south east. Trough House and the Cut Road are a 1/2 mile north, via the Danby Road. Rosedale Head is 1 mile to the west.
The Stone is a modern Stone, having been placed on site during the year 2000 to commemorate our new millennium. The Stone carvings were made by Mike Weatherill, a mason of Danby. It apparently weighs 7 tons and was made on behalf of the North Yorkshire Moors Association.
Millennium Stone Danby Moor
The Millennium Stone is a large slab of sandstone that had been left by a retreating ice sheet more than 10,000 years ago on Spaunton Moor. The slab was transported to its current location, 10 miles north of its excavation site. It was essential for the Stone to have a similar look to a dated standing stone.
Millennium Stone North Side
The north side of the Stone has a cross etched into it with four initials, one for each quadrant of the cross. The initials read AD MM, signifiying the commemoration of the 2000 year millennium. A large hole had been excavated prior to delivery, which was lined with stone slabs for the Stone's stability.

The Millennium Stone was dressed by a stone mason from Danby, Mike Weatherill. The date was 2000 years anno domini, i,e. after the date of our Saviour's birth.
