Rain Dale, Bay Ness, Coast to Coast
Rain Dale Slack issues from the far side of the Cinder Track, not far from Bay Ness. During inclement weather Rain Dale Slack flows along its Dale, meeting, and flowing over, the cliffs above Clock Case Nab at the North Sea. Rain Dale is a positive geologic feature of the Coast to Coast path, being wooded and breaking up the continuity of the fields and meadows. The coastline forms a large bay here, starting at Clock Case Nab and finishing at Normanby Stye Batts. Because of this the distance of the Coast from the Cinder Track is at its narrowest, discounting its gradual merger with the Track at Robin Hood's Bay. A path passes connects The Coast to Coast path with the Cinder Track at Rain Dale.

Where Rain Dale meets the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, the Rain Dale Slack tumbles over Clock Case Nab in a spectacular cascade of white water.

From the bridge at Clock Case Nab you can view the entrance to Rain Dale by looking west along the Slack. In the wooded distance you can sight another waterfall where the Dale begins to climb to a higher contour.

Looking east from the bridge above Clock Case Nab you can watch Rain Dale Slack glide over the lip of the cliff face, to follow its destiny to the foreshore rocks and the North Sea
Into Rain Dale
Rain Dale is quite densely wooded and the path is sodden. The path doesn't maintain its relationship with Rain Dale Slack, but keeps to the north edge of the Dale and veers off at a tengent to joint the Cinder Track at a fence boundary about 300 yards distant.

Looking back to Clock Case Nab along Rain Dale. The Dale deepens as it descends. Rain Dale Slack is more evident in inclement weather. The Dale adds variety to the coastal meadows and provides a protective corridor for the indigenous wildlife.

Looking south west from the Cinder Track, Rain Dale Slack can be followed almost to its source of issue in Smails Moor.

Another Slack crossing beneath the Cinder Track passes along the south east edge of Rain Dale. The view is of the Dale appraoching the Cinder Track from the south east.
