Sheep Wash, Pamperdale, Coast to Coast
Sheep Wash is the local name given to the junction of High Lane, or the Old Drove Road, with Quarry Lane. They meet at the south east corner of Scarth Wood Moor and the north west corner of Pamperdale, very close to Cod Beck Reservoir and the Cod Beck Woodlands.
Sheepwash is the area around this junction, more particularly around the ford where the Crabdale Beck passes beneath the Old Drover's Road before sluicing into the Reservoir. It leaves the Reservoir at its south western dam end as the Cod Beck, eventually to be subsumed by the River Swale beside the Maiden Bower Motte and Bailey at Leckby Grange.
Sheepwash is popular with locals who use the ford and beck for paddling, although in times long past it was used by the drovers to wash their sheep.
Sheep Wash Pamperdale
In those balmy summer days a popular way to relax is to paddle in the shallow waters of the Crabdale Beck and the ford at Sheepwash. There is plenty of low moorland grass upon which to sit and eat.
Sheepwash Ford Crabdale Beck
The ancient Drover's Road takes on its more modern appearance as it crosses the ford at Crabdale Beck. Crabdale Beck is the main feeder stream to Cod Beck Reservoir. The moorland on the opposite side of the ford is Scarth Wood Moor.

This section of the Drove Road runs to the west of Pamperdale Ridge and the the east of Codbeck Reservoir Woodlands.
