Old Colburn, Richmond, Coast to Coast
Old Colburn is a small village built close to the south bank of the River Swale between Iron Banks wood and Hagg Farm to its west and St Giles Farm to its east. The village is separated by farmland from the large council estate of Colburn Lane and Catterick Garrison further to its south. The Coast to Coast path passes from west to east through the village.
The Coast to Coast path enters the village at a shallow ford across the Colburn Beck which loops around the west and north sides of the ring shaped village. It then leaves the village to merge with the River Swale opposite to Brompton Lakes, whilst the Path continues east towards Bolton-on-Swale.
Old Colburn Village
In May the halcyon village gardens are all in bloom, instilling a florally delightful fusion of colours, of heady breeze wafted floral scents and of unbroken chirruping, chittering birdsong.
Colburn Beck
The village of Old Colburn is protected by a concrete bank on the east side of Colburn Beck which channels it around to the north side of the Village, where it is safely steered away from the village, reducing the risk of flooding.
Colburn Ford
Colburn takes its name from the Colburn Beck, which was once named Cold Burn. Its waters pass through Colburn at a road ford on the north side of the Village, and shortly after it is culverted under the same road, having been led safely on its way towards its convergence with the River Swale.

The Colburn Beck leaves the Village where it is culverted under the village round at the north, heading towards its confluence with the River Swale opposite Brompton Lakes.
Hildyard Arms Old Colburn
The Hildyard Arms is a traditional county pub located in the centre of Old Colburn village. It has a cosy snug and a real fire in the winter. There are large front and back gardens for the barmy summer evenings. The Coast to Coast path passes by its doorstep en route to Bolton-on-Swale. There are shepherd huts available for B & B, free camping for walkers and good food.

Weeping Willow at Colburn Hall
Colburn Hall is a Grade II Listed Bulding on the north fringe of Old Colburn Village. Datiing to 1662 it is a manor house. The coat of arms of the D'Arcy family is carved above the central door. The hall is part of the medieval complex which includes the former Courthouse.
